Hello guys! Happy Monday! I hope school is going well for everyone. In honor of the recent passing of the U.S Supreme Court Judge, Ruth Bader, who made a lasting impact and inspired women everywhere, I wanted to provide you guys with 3 fun female-empowering shows/books.
Kaichou Wa Maid Sama (The President is a Maid) (Netflix)
This is one of my favorite shows ever! The President is a Maid is about a high school girl named Misaki who becomes the Student Council President in a school that was previously an all-boys school. She instills discipline on the students around her and protects the girls who are constantly teased. When another student finds out she works at a Maid Cafe, her reputation is threatened. This story has romance, comedy, and female empowerment to the max! Seriously, just watch. Misaki serves as one of the best examples of what it means to be a Teen Boss Babe (that doesn’t necessarily own a business).
Yona of the Dawn (show)
Yona of the Dawn is an anime, (not on Netflix) about a princess named Yona that was brought up in ignorance. Though kind, she had no idea of the chaos ruining the kingdom due to being secluded inside the castle for her whole life. When the king is killed, she luckily escapes with her bodyguard and goes on a quest to seek help from legendary warriors. On her journey, she finally gets a sense of the dangers of the world, and the decaying of her people. I loved this show because Yona was originally helpless and willfully ignorant. However, she is humbled by her experiences and becomes a brave and strong fighter.
The Lunar Chronicles (Books)
This series is a retelling of the well-known Disney characters: Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Snow White. However, there’s a twist: the series is more action-packed, science fiction-packed, and the girls are bad-A’s. Cinderella, particularly, is half cyborg in this book! Instead of reading stories of how princes’ come to save the characters, we see the personalities of each of these girls flourish as they are forced to combat an evil alien race that threatens to overthrow earth. Trust me!
